Whitney Houston or Whitney Elizabeth Houston was an American singer and actress. Whitney began singing in church as a child and became a background vocalist while in high school.

Her second cousin is Dionne Warwick and her godmother is Aretha Franklin. With the guidance of Arista Records chairman Clive Davis, she began her professional singing career when she signed to the label at the age of 19.

Throughout the 1980s, Whitney was romantically linked to American football star Randall Cunningham and actor Eddie Murphy.

Whitney had a daughter by the name of Bobbi Kristina Houston Brown with R&B singer Bobby Brown (formerly of boy band New Edition).

She had leading roles in thee major motion pictures, The Body Guard (1992), Waiting to Exhale (1995) and The Preacher’s Wife (1996).
